Working in IT in a school brings about some very repetitive computer problems. One of my favorite is when either a student or teacher comes and says “The internet isn’t working”. Obviously that is vague and not entirely helpful. I would say that the vast majority of the time the answer is to select available networks, click on the preferred network to connect to it and just like magic the internet is working.

I have found that the average person doesn’t check the simple methods to fix the situation they are in, whether it is with their computer or with other complications that arise in their life. William of Ockham had it right when he said “the simplest solution is almost always the best.” Obviously ‘almost’ is important to have in there as many problems are complex, but it is important to exhaust the simple answers when diagnosing a problem as you may find it will take care of it much faster and with much less stress.
